Food Support at UCOM

Striving to provide healthier options for our clients

Since the 1960's when a group of parishioners at Smith Memorial Church formed the ministry that would eventually become UCOM, providing food support for our neighbors has been one of our foremost goals. When UCOM was officially established in 1985 it consisted of two programs: Homework House and the Food Pantry. Over the years UCOM has expanded it's food support programs to include distribution of senior commodities boxes and, through our partner churches, food distribution to homebound individuals.  In 2003 UCOM decided to become a Client Choice pantry offering those using the pantry a much greater degree of flexibility and freedom and as recently as 2017 UCOM began our next step of becoming a Healthy Choice Food Pantry. This shift has meant a focus on healthful nutritious options for our neighbors, including a strong emphasis on produce.

At UCOM we are committed to providing a great variety of healthy food for all of those in need in Southwest Kent County.
