Free Income Tax Preparation

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

As an IRS recognized VITA site UCOM, with the help of the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition (KCTCC) has provided free income tax service to members of our community for over 20 years.

With the goal of helping working individuals and families achieve economic success, the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition (KCTCC) offers free income tax return preparation and assistance with filing tax credit claims, including the Earned Income Tax Credit. Since 2002, KCTCC has generated more than $73 million in tax credits for over 61,000 taxpayers in Kent County. These credits benefit Kent County as clients often spend tax refunds locally for basic necessities such as food and clothing, home and car repairs, or medical treatment.

"I didn't know this service was free. I really wasn't expecting to get anything back. This was very convenient and I'm really pleased with the service. I've already recommended you to a friend." - A satisfied client

This year, volunteers will be preparing taxes by appointment only until April 15. In addition to helping file simple individual and joint tax returns, volunteers are also able to assist in filing for home heating, homestead, earned income, and child care credits.

“The best part was the big smiles on people’s faces when they received more return than they had expected.”
