Free Income Tax Preparation
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
Last year UCOM's volunteer tax preparers got refunds of $375,804.00* for 218 low-income workers. The Kent County Tax Credit Coalition total refunds for 2010 were more than $10 million*. UCOM has provided this service for the past 13 years.
This year, volunteers will be preparing taxes by appointment until April 12 for people at or below 150% of the poverty level. Included in their services are filing for home heating, homestead, earned income, and child care credits. This is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, recognized by the IRS, performed in collaboration with the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition.
